Inspired by the power of the sea Mexico Premiere 2025
The sea, with its vastness and mystery, has been an endless source of inspiration for artists across disciplines. In this instance, acclaimed composer Eric Nathan presents The Seas Between Us, a concerto for solo flute and orchestra that captures the essence of the ocean: its overwhelming force, its introspective calm, and its ability to connect worlds and emotions.
This concerto, composed in 2024, is structured in three movements:

II. To Dance
III. Beyond Waves
Commissioned by Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting, The Seas Between Us was premiered worldwide in 2024 and 2025 by distinguished orchestras, including:

Mexican flute virtuoso Alejandro Escuer is coming back to NYC after many years of tours, recordings and concerts, including several premieres for flute and orchestra dedicated to him. In this occasion, you will have a unique opportunity to listen to a highly original program for solo flute and electroacoustic mixed pieces that gather some of the most intriguing, controversial and expressive composers of the contemporary classical world, including the now famous Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz (b. Mexico 1964) with an evocative piece for amplified flute, voice and violoncello that will be performed along with Carla López Speziale. In the program it is also listed a piece done by cutting and editing recording sound tapes by hand based on a rare interview of Billie Holiday matching Billie´s spoken words with flute melodies and intricate rhythms by Dutch composer Jacob ter Veldhuis (b. Netherlands 1951). It also includes music by Alejandro Escuer, for example a piece called Dreaming the End of War (2023), a moving work inspired by the interdisciplinary collective project called Can We Know the Sound of Forgiveness https://www.carnegiehall.org/Calendar/2024/10/18/Can-We-Know-the-Sound-of-Forgiveness-0730PM; you will also hear Manuel Rocha Iturbide (b. México 1963) Semi no Koe based on the hypnotic sound of Japanese cicadas and how insects could easily take over our planet facing climate change; the world premiere of Maquin-Son by Gonzalo Macías (b. México 1958), and Maquinaria (2015), a US premiere by Jorge Verdin (b. Los Angeles 1965-2024) who was known under the pseudonym of Clorofila, for he was also a member of Nortech, a Norteño-Techno music project born in Tijuana. Both pieces, Maquin-Son and Maquinaria reflect on how technology and machines help but also alienate and destroy humans. Postmodern Flute Project starts this year and will continue for several years with new pieces, commissions and premieres until 2034, when the flutist plans to dedicate his time fully to composing. This first concert will be without a doubt one of the most eclectic, contrasting and interesting of its kind.

Concebido por Alejandro Escuer y desarrollado en colectivo por los artistas involucrados, ATL es una instalación de arte sonoro con participaciones instrumentales (flautas y percusiones) al aire libre o en espacios alternativos semi-abiertos cuyo eje fundamental es el agua y la importancia del líquido en la configuración de la historia del ser humano. ATL se relaciona profundamente con la cosmovisión y filosofía de los antiguos mexicanos y con los procesos que destruyeron esa cosmovisión, sustituyéndola por nuevas formas de urbanismo y modernidad importadas, las cuales han encontrado fuertes contradicciones históricas con el entorno. ATL presenta una propuesta cuya elocuencia y expresividad sonora aluden directamente a la conciencia y revaloración ecológica no solo del propio líquido, sino también de su historia e importancia para la vida y el futuro. Se trata de una experiencia inmersiva, es decir, envolvente de alto poder y elocuencia sonora que aproveche la infraestructura del Parque presa de la olla con el fin de que el público aprecie y disfrute de una experiencia única, memorable. Parte de la audiencia podría estar en trajineras y/o en uno o dos flancos, de manera que la presa esté rodeada de bocinas de alta calidad, definición y proyección.
**Una Noche de Encanto Musical en el Disney Hall: LA Phil bajo la Dirección de Carlos Miguel Prieto**
El pasado sábado, el Walt Disney Concert Hall se convirtió en el epicentro de una experiencia musical única, protagonizada por la LA Phil y el talentoso solista Alejandro Escuer en la flauta. Dirigidos con maestría por Carlos Miguel Prieto, la orquesta deslumbró al público con un programa que incluyó el estreno mundial de “Hecha Trueno”, una obra vibrante del compositor costarricense Alejandro Carmona.
Desde el momento en que Prieto subió al podio, el ambiente se llenó de anticipación y expectativa. La LA Phil, conocida por su precisión y dinamismo, entregó una interpretación magistral que capturó la esencia única de cada composición. La noche comenzó con piezas clásicas que mostraron la versatilidad del conjunto, destacando la habilidad de cada sección para fusionarse en un sonido armonioso y potente.
El momento culminante llegó con el estreno de “Hecha Trueno”. Escrita específicamente para Escuer y la LA Phil, la obra transportó al público a través de paisajes sonoros intrincados y emocionalmente cargados. La flauta de Escuer brilló con su virtuosismo, navegando entre pasajes melódicos fluidos y momentos de intensa improvisación. Carmona, con su composición innovadora, logró capturar la atención de todos, llevándonos en un viaje sonoro que desafiaba las expectativas y exploraba nuevas fronteras musicales.
La interacción entre Prieto, Escuer y la orquesta fue excepcional. Se percibía una química palpable entre el solista y los músicos, creando momentos de sincronización perfecta y emoción compartida. Cada movimiento de Prieto fue interpretado con precisión y pasión, guiando a la LA Phil a través de cambios dinámicos y ritmos desafiantes con una facilidad que solo los verdaderos maestros pueden lograr.
El concierto culminó con una ovación de pie y múltiples llamados al escenario, donde Prieto, Escuer y Carmona fueron aclamados por una audiencia que no quería que la noche terminara. Este evento no solo destacó la excelencia artística de la LA Phil y sus colaboradores, sino que también demostró el compromiso continuo del Walt Disney Concert Hall de llevar lo mejor de la música clásica y contemporánea a su público.
En resumen, el concierto de la LA Phil bajo la dirección de Carlos Miguel Prieto, con Alejandro Escuer como solista y el estreno de “Hecha Trueno” de Alejandro Carmona, fue una experiencia musical inolvidable. Urtext Digital Classics is launching Alejandro Escuer´s new album FLOW with World premieres for flute and orchestra by composers from Canada, US and Mexico.
The new recording includes works specially composed and dedicated to Alejandro Escuer. It consists of composers such as David Dzubay, Joseph Schwantner, Hebert Vazquez and Michael Matthews. The participant orchestras are Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato and Orquesta Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México conducted by Juan Carlos Lomónaco, José Areán and Iván del Prado respectively.
Like many of you, I have been recording flute videos of pieces conceived during the worldwide confinement due to Covid-19. It has been a journey of self discovery, for I have explored in each of these short videos, different musical ideas that I think they go very well with the solo flute and the aesthetics of not only the modern flutist but also an eager contemporary listener.
To me, the most important thing is to be as expressive as possible through a discourse that is able to establish two simultaneous dialogues that intersect: one between tradition and modernity, and the other between contemporary performance and the musics of the world, which are somehow present in my musical thought through metaphors, deliberate tonal ambiguity, phrasing, breathing and sound.

112 segundos for solo flute is a short piece conceived to be the first one of a series of flute music works “MÚSICA DESDE EL INTERIOR” “Music from the Inside” to cope with these hard times of world wide confinement (April 2020) due to COVID-19, hoping music will ease, even for a few seconds, our long hours indoors. Hundreds of concerts and festivals have been cancelled, and we cannot help but to find ways to share our craft and give it away just for your own enjoyment.
Música por descubrir -Music to be discovered- is an hour radio show that brings the attention to unknown, rare and yet valuable works by composers of all times, emphasizing on the music creations and contexts of living composers. Designed, curated and hosted by Alejandro Escuer, this show is a true audible path for the classical music listener to conquer and enjoy music you have never or rarely heard of, and it is aired every week, Saturdays at 7 pm in the classical music station Opus 94.5-FM which belongs to Mexico’s National Public Radio: Instituto Mexicano de la Radio (IMER).

Estoy muy emocionado de presentarles el estreno absoluto de VELCRO, un brillante y extremadamente virtuoso concierto para flauta y orquesta que me escribió Felipe Perez Santiago. El estreno será con la Orquesta sinfónica Sinaloa de las Artes dirigida por Miguel Salmón Del Real el próximo 12 de septiembre a las 8 pm en el Teatro Pablo de Villavicencio de Culiacán Sinaloa. ¡Ahí nos vemos!
