In 2000, flutist Alejandro Escuer was invited to inaugurate the 40th edition of the Manuel Enríquez International Forum of New Music and performed “A Play of Shadows: Fantasy for flute and orchestra” by Joseph Schwantner. Shortly after, he launched the project “Flauta y orquesta XXI.” In over 20 years, he has premiered more than eight new concertos.

Four of these concertos are: **FLOW for flute and orchestra** (2019) by David Dzubay, **REQUIEM MARÍTIMO: Homenaje a Vicente Huidobro for flute, bass clarinet, and orchestra** (2004) by Hebert Vázquez, **Concerto for flute and orchestra** (2010) by Michael Matthews, which were written especially for Escuer, who worked directly with the composers; as well as **A Play of Shadows**. These works are featured in the album **Flow** (Urtext, 2022).
