Alejandro Cardona (Costa Rica, 1959).
This album contains the world premiere of a flute and string quartet work by Alejandro Cardona called “Aquí entre los huesos” a major Latin American composer who has extensively collaborated with Alejandro Escuer in many projects, including a flute concerto premiered by the flutist and the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Carlos Miguel Prieto in 2024.
This quintet is written for bass flute in combination with regular flute and string quartet and is the only recording of Alejandro Escuer with the Cuarteto Latinoamericano.

Human Mechanics (2018) by Alejandro Escuer is a piece for mixed ensemble and electronics and in this recording the ensemble is integrated by musicians of both nationalities. The electronics are done basically with sounds of the human body. The collaboration was possible thanks to Golden Hornet Foundation.

Manuel Rocha Iturbide (b. Mexico 1963) is a composer and sound artist who dedicated his piece for flute and electronics to Alejandro Escuer called Semi no Koe. The work is based on the sound of cicades, a sound which caused a tremendous impact on the composer during an artistic residency in Japan in the Summer of 2002 and served as a point of departure for this hypnotic and powerful work. It is also included in the album AQUA.

Felipe Pérez Santiago (b. Mexico 1973) has written and dedicated many pieces to flutist Alejandro Escuer, including a flute concerto and a number of chamber works. In Mantis there is a piece for flute and electronics called Red Antisocial inspired by the idea that due to social media, we are apparently more interconnected but in reality, humans live more isolated lives. The pieces is constructed on layers and layers of flute parts, all played and recorded by Alejandro Escuer.

Alejandro Escuer collaborated with Mexican composer Graciela Agudelo (1945-2018) in several projects. One of them is contained in this CD and it is a solo flute piece called Celebración del vino. It is some sort of continuation or epilogue of her more ambitious and substantial work for solo flute (also in close collaboration with Alejandro) called Meditaciones sobre Abya Yala, which appear in another album (Jade Nocturno).

This celebratory album gathers some of the most successful pieces by “pop-avant-garde” Dutch composer Jacob ter Veldhuis (b. The Netherlands, 1951) and includes a piece called LIPSTICK for flute and electronics. This is not a common piece for the electronics are remarkably original: Imagine cutting and editing recording sound tapes by hand based on a rare interview of Billie Holiday, and then matching Billie´s spoken words (pronunciations and inflexions) with clever and fun flute melodies and intricate rhythms of tremendous virtuosity. The result is a postmodern highly original, substantial hybrid work.
